ALS Research

With your support, our research program fuels global collaboration to expedite the discovery of treatments and cures for ALS.

The Premier ALS Research Program in the World

Everything we do supports our mission of finding effective treatments and cures for ALS, which is why it is so critical to fund ALS research. We have the premier ALS research program in the world.

Our approach is simple and has led to some of the biggest research discoveries in the history of ALS. We fund the most promising research around the globe, while inspiring and initiating innovative partnerships across all sectors – government, industry, academia, and other nonprofit organizations – and funding bright, early-career scientists to spur innovation.

Thanks to the donations raised during and since the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, we are now spending three times more on ALS research than before summer 2014.

Some of the things we're investing in:

  • Three potential new ALS antisense drugs
  • Key advances in wearable sensor and brain computer interface technology
  • New treatment approaches in clinical trials
  • Innovative projects using induced pluripotent stem cells for drug development and disease modeling.
  • Big data initiatives to enable large sequencing and gene identification efforts
  •  Investigations into the way that environmental factors may interact with genetics to produce ALS
  • Biomarker research studies

Latest Research Breakthrough

If you took the Ice Bucket Challenge, you helped deliver RELYVRIO (formerly AMX0035), the first newly developed treatment approved for ALS in years. RELYVRIO slows progression of ALS and extends life for people living with ALS. We know that there are a lot of questions that people have. Please read some of the FAQs about this new ALS treatment.

Lawrence and Isabel Barnett Drug Development Program

Our Lawrence and Isabel Barnett Drug Development Program allows us the freedom to strategically fund preclinical projects aimed at developing therapeutics for ALS that are product-driven.
